April 28 Sunday
I chose to do three, 20 minute sketches. No pencil, pen and markers only. Looking forward to be going back when the sun is shining, and we can sketch from the balcony.
For those of you who attended today, I really missed the mark. The date is May 13, a Monday, and not Tuesday next week. I will still be early, just not a week early LOL
Hello everyone. Please note the following changes. Event Page has been, or will be updated shortly.
May 4: Eau Claire Market, Food Court. If it is relatively nice out, we can move our sketching outside to the plaza.
May 13: South End of Peace Bridge. New start time (5:30 – 7:30). Event cancelled if weather is not suitable.
See you tomorrow.
A great evening sketching from Harley Hotchkiss Gardens on Tuesday. I believe we had 9 people. The evening was warm, and it felt fabulous to be sketching outside. The last 3 outings I have started with a small thumbnail to help settle me down, & figure out what I am seeing, well most of what I am seeing (LOL). I have noticed it has also helped me simplify what I sketch.
Every week I say, “I will post, I will make that commitment”. Well here we go. I played around with some fonts to add more interest to the story. The first two are from our outing to the Glenbow Museum – Free First Thursday Event. Oh man, so many people, but we persevered. These are 20 minute sketches. The third is our outing two Saturday’s ago at Suncor. Thanks Jeff for getting us permission to sketch here.
I was contacted by the The City of Calgary to see if we would be interested in submitting sketches we have done from the +15’s. They want to show the different ways the +15’s are being utilized. Submit your pictures to me by April 10. They are asking they be in .png format, but if that is not possible, then .jpg format. I will submit them all, and they will make the final decision. My email address is Belinda.Ramscar@shaw.ca
See you Thursday evening.
I am thinking of sketching on Friday, care to join me? I am tossing around 10 – noon at the Glenbow, Dior Exhibition area. Then I plan to take a short break, and weather depending, sketch the Conversation bronze statue and area at 200-216 8 Ave SW from 12:30/1:00 for a couple of hours. If you wish to join me, please email me before Friday at Belinda.Ramscar@shaw.ca so I know to watch for you. If no one emails me, I may not stick to the above plan.
You may remember that last summer I was in Mark’s Urban Sketching Workshop. (See post from 2018 June 27) Deb David was also in that workshop. I am very pleased that Mark is offering the workshop again this June and July on Saturdays. You can sign up for a package of 8, 4 or single classes. Mark starts each workshop with a quick lesson, followed by plenty of individual instruction and attention throughout the day. If you are interested, see his Web Site at https://www.studiovazquez-mackay.com/ Select Educational/Art Retreats, then Calgary Urban Sketching. If link becomes broken Google studio vazquez-mackay.
Schedule (If raining, you will receive an e-mail with an alternative location.)
South Africa is a lovely country to visit, especially as they don’t have any of this white stuff on the ground. I only completed 2 longer sketches, as we were on the move quite a bit. But……
…I purchased an accordion sketchbook, and did a 20 – 30 minute sketch each day, without fail. I used colored felt tip pens, a different color for each sketch. I have included some of my favorites. For some sketches, I used two pages.
+9C outside, but plenty warm in Calgary’s one hectare botanical garden. Among the trees and plants is also a 84 sq meter living wall, water features, koi pond, wooden masks, and a playground for the kids. We were treated to people voluntarily playing the grande piano. Lovely environment.
First sketched an area of the garden, then went back after coffee with the gang to practice sketching people. Experimented with watercolor pencils, nice quick way to get color down. Love doing one line gesture drawings.
For those of you not from Caglary, the average high at this time of year is +17C.
