March 27 11:30 – 14:00
Description: Join us in exploring the community of Tuxedo Park! https://www.heritageinspiresyyc.org/…/communities…/
Established in 1911, this neighbourhood straddles Centre Street north, providing ample sketching subject matter. In particular, there are lots of vantage points of Balmoral School and Balmoral Bungalow School to be had, as well as the Balmoral workers cottages. Or maybe you will just find an interesting alley or streetscape. Here are some more specific ideas.
1. View of Balmoral School Clock Tower from 17 AV NW, between 4 ST & 2 ST NW. Found info the clock was never installed as it was designed and built in England and shipped on the Titanic….not sure if this is a true story or not. 17 AV has permit parking, so be mindful of where you park.
2. Balmoral Bungalow School (1913) on the corner of 18 AV NW & 1 ST NW https://www.calgary.ca/…/discover-historic-calgary…
3. Side and front views of Balmoral School (1913) from surrounding streets and possible school parking lot. This is the large sandstone building.
4. Older homes in the area or the Balmoral Workers Cottages https://www.calgary.ca/…/discover-historic-calgary…
Meet: Start sketching when you arrive. Feel free to arrive earlier if you wish. Plan to meet up at 𝟮:𝟭𝟱 to share sketches, and for a quick photo-op in the Balmoral School parking lot (220 18 Ave NW). If more than 10 people arrive, we will break into two groups, well distanced from each other.
If you are not comfortable meeting then you are welcome to go during the week. Send your sketch to Belinda Ramscar by noon Mar 28. Email address listed on our web page, . jpg format preferred. Or post on our Facebook Page and I will grab it.
Don’t forget your masks! Must be worn when we can not maintain the proper social distance, especially when we are meeting at the end for the photo op.
Please stay home if you feel unwell, uncomfortable or are exhibiting any symptoms.
